My personal all time favorite, thus far in my life, is the Olympus digital voice recorder model WS-100.  For the compact size, storage capacity, quality of recording, battery life, and price I have not found a better model.  Oh yes did I mention ease of use as one of the best features.  It is inexpensive enough that if lost it is not the end of the world, and yet it provides all of the features that I need in a device.
